Mr. Silber has been active in the architecture and urban design of Southern California since his graduation from the University of San Diego in 1973. Involvement began with work of the historically significant architecture of San Diego. This initial interest in what had been made evolved into a concern for what should be made. He returned to school and in 1981 completed a Masters of Architecture degree at the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-ARC).
Mr. Silber is the former Architectural Director of the Los Angeles Community Design Center. He has also served as a Project Architect with Rob Wellington Quigley, FAIA, in San Diego and with Solberg and Lowe, AIA, of Santa Monica. While with Rob Quigley, Mr. Silber worked on the La Pensione Hotel and Malibu Studio Hotel single room occupancy (SRO) projects. These projects have received both state and local design award recognition by the American Institute of Architects for their fresh solution to the need for affordable housing in urban settings. John’s projects with Solberg and Lowe include the innovative Samuel Goldwyn Children’s Center and the Alcoholism Center for Women. His Community Design Center Projects include his Los Angeles Free Clinic’s Seniel Ostrow Building, the Los Angeles Family School, and several in-fill affordable housing developments.
Active in community building in the larger sense, Mr. Silber serves on the City of Fullerton Redevelopment Agency Design Review Committee and is a member of the Fullerton Chamber of Commerce.
Since 1993 Mr. Silber has served as the principal architect of his own firm. As such he brings 20 years experience in the practice of architecture.
