A 13,000 square-foot community center serves needs of children and families in the Calle Montecito neighborhood. A key component of a neighborhood revitalization plan, the center‘s design incorporates facilities for community meetings, after-school programs and job training, as well as a health clinic and computer center. With bilingual staff and a place to learn about city services, the center serves area residents regardless of age or income, from at-risk children with school performance challenges to seniors with health issues.
Funding for construction was provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in the form of a Community Development Block Grant CDBG) and a Section 108 loan.
